In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said “Let there be light," and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good. Genesis 1:1-6
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him and without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the Light shined in the darkness and the darkness could not overcome it. John 1:1-5
Light - first to be created, necessary for life, the counterpoint of the darkness which cannot exist in its presence. Light entered the world at the dawn of creation and returned when the time was right. More than illumination, a mirror for mankind. Man’s understanding was in shadow but, with the coming of the Light, all was revealed.
This was the Messianic promise. “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light. On those living in the land of deep darkness, light has dawned.” Isaiah 9:2. Unto us a child is born, a child born to banish the darkness. Prophesied by the voices of prophets, promised to the nations and to the ones, realized in the fullness of time, this is the story of Christmas.
Join us this month as we greet the Christmas season with “The Coming of the Light - The Fulfillment of Prophecy and Promise.”
