“Each time he said, 'My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.' So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.”
2 Corinthians 12:9
I have never had a big moment where my relationship with Christ became a testimony. My testimony has always been rather boring! I was raised in a Christian family, I listened to my grandmother pray over every member of our family each night. We prayed before dinner, went to church, prayed for others during hard times and just genuinely believed the Word of God. I know the Bible well, and I have never questioned my beliefs. Recently, our family went through the biggest trial we have ever faced.
After a perfect pregnancy, my daughter-in-law had to have an emergency c-section. Our grandbaby was born with severe challenges to overcome to live. We were taken aback and felt like we had been punched in the gut. The joy we were expecting became a nightmare.
We walked out of a room after receiving very scary news, and my daughter's first reaction was to join hands and cry out to Jesus to heal baby Sandler. She prayed for his parents and our family and the words "my grace is sufficient" became the phrase the Lord blanketed us over the next few weeks.
Every decision, every report, every action... "His grace is sufficient." I watched my son and daughter-in-law live their faith. They prayed and they believed that God would heal their baby. They asked the world to pray and they did. Five continents and dozens of countries joined our family in an unbroken chain of prayer for our baby.
"His grace is sufficient." We leaned in. We gave it all to the Lord. We never questioned his goodness. We stayed faithful and prayed for His provision, believing it would be enough.
Three weeks later, we are home with a healthy baby boy. God showed mercy on our family. Our Sandler will always know his testimony and the 10,000+ people that signed up to pray for his health and well-being. This baby belongs to the Lord, and my son and daughter-in-love know this.
Sometimes your testimony comes along when you don't expect it and you certainly don't want it. My mom raised a godly woman. Because of her, I raised my children in the church. I saw what a gift it is to be a believer these past few weeks as I watched my children pray over their child, and prayed for the doctors and every other person that interacted with their baby.
My legacy and my testimony is my children's faith.
Ladies, teach your children where to turn when life becomes tough. Teach them to ask for their needs. Teach them that His grace is sufficient. Teach them to trust in the Lord because His grace is sufficient.
