He who gives His testimony to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”
Revelation 22:20
Have you ever been reading a book that is so intense that you have to skip to the last chapter to see how it all ends? The story is just so full of multiple characters with so much drama and suspense that you have become overwhelmed and just need to know that all ends well.
The world we are living in at this moment is more intense than any other time in my life. I am sure that those who lived in decades past have felt the same heaviness. Each generation seems to have experienced the intensity of wars, plagues, and famines. Yet for much of my lifetime in the United States, we have been pretty isolated from such calamities. However in the last few years, that has changed. Just recently, the thousand year flood events that triggered devastation in Tennessee and North Carolina and the constant barrage of political and gender hostility have upended any persuasion of normalcy. It is enough to make you wonder when and how the story will end.
But once our faith and belief is placed in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we no longer have to worry about how the story will end.
“Jesus is the one who says that all of this is true. Now He says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.‘ Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!” Revelation 22:20 (ETR Version).
It is promised to each of us that one day, Jesus will return. And when He returns, all will be made new. All will be restored to perfection. That is the hope and the guarantee that propels us as well as the anchor that holds us. (Hebrews 6:19, 9:27-28) We are called to live in this day as strangers, aliens to this world. This is not our home and will therefore never feel quite right.
But one day, the trumpets will sound, the clouds will part and all who love the Lord will join Him in the final homecoming. We will be with Jesus for eternity and the chaos of this world will disappear.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the world right now? Have you lost your contentment and feel consumed by the chaos? Stop right now and go read the end of The Story. It is incredible!
