“… and his truth endureth to all generations.” Psalm 100:5
Over the past few months, I’ve spent countless hours at doctor’s appointments with my daughter. She recently completed a comprehensive assessment, and we will receive the results in the coming weeks. According to the provider’s website, the assessment can provide us with “the answers we have been looking for.” While I believe the assessment will provide valuable insights that will help provide the support that she needs, I remind myself often that God’s truth is the most powerful tool that we have for raising our children.
Knowing God’s truth—the Word—isn’t exclusive to pastors or theologians. It has been entrusted to us by God for sweet little girls, teenagers finding their way, successful executives, overwhelmed parents, the discouraged, the anxious, and every person searching for what only God can provide. It is meant for our living rooms, classrooms, boardrooms, doctor’s offices, and places of everyday life. His Truth is personal, relational, and transformational. It will convict, rescue, empower, and shape us into His image.
The truth of God is not merely factual but is deeply tied to His character and nature. In John 17:17, Jesus prays, "Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth." This affirms that God's word is the ultimate standard of truth and how believers are sanctified and set apart for His purposes.
Psalm 100:5 ends with a notice that God's truth endures through all generations. Some translations say, "His faithfulness endures." To say God is true does not simply mean He tells the truth—it means He is truth. And because God is truth, He is also faithful. Faithfulness is truth in action. It means that what God declares, He fulfills. What He promises, He keeps. Who He is today, He will be tomorrow.
“God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind.” Numbers 23:19
“But you God remain the same, and your years will never end.” Psalm 102:27
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8
God’s truth speaks to identity in a way no checklist or diagnosis ever could. An assessment may identify a delay, but God sees a future. A report may describe limitations, but God whispers promises.
“People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
God's Word tells us that we are chosen, loved, purpose-filled, created in His image, fearfully and wonderfully made. We are called to teach our children these truths.
"And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise." Deuteronomy 6:6-7
"...but tell the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done." Psalm 78:4
What strengthened believers thousands of years ago still strengthens us today. When a generation longs for answers, they will be found in His Word. When a generation needs hope, it will be found in His Word. When a generation is left hungering and thirsting, they will find themselves satisfied by the Word of God.
“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Isaiah 40:8
