Reflections of Peace

Updated: Aug 15, 2021

“Waymaker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness, my God, that is who you are.”

Peace in your heart originates from the understanding that every detail of your life lays in the hands of a loving God.

I remember the moment I consciously sought God’s peace in the chaos of my life. Despite the fact I had been a Christian for my entire life, I remember the exact moment I surrendered my will to the Lord. I had just lost someone I loved dearly, and I could not get my mind out of the grief. I was consumed with hurt and covered in darkness. The simple words of a trusted friend said, “You will find peace in your heart when you consciously seek the Light.”

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. - Galatians 4:22-23

Peace. I had to find peace. My mind was reeling, my hurt was out of control and I could not focus. The enemy had taken over every thought and feeling. I had to seek God to find the peace I needed to sustain my life. I had to get out of auto-pilot, quick reacting, and be proactive about my spiritual health. I needed to find a peace in Christ that did not waiver with circumstances in life.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4: 6-7

This time began a personal journey to find the power of the Holy Spirit in me. I prayed that God would be greater, and I would become less (John 3:30). I prayed that God would provide moments for me to seek and learn the power of the Holy Spirit. I prayed that God would put people in my life that could show me what it felt to entrust my life into His care. I prayed that God would open my heart and mind to see Him at work in those around me and prayed that God would use me as a vessel for His plan and glory.

It has taken years of training, seeking and being spiritually vulnerable to feel the power of the Holy Spirit in my life. God has answered so many of those prayers. God has provided light to my life in many times of darkness. Admittedly, it does not take much to derail my mind and allow darkness to creep in and disturb my peace. Trauma and hurt steal our closeness to God. Fear and anxiety often occupy precious space in my mind and worry often gets a seat at my table.

It is those times I have learned that seeking moments with INTENTION is the key to hearing his voice through the Holy Spirit. God has provided what I have asked. I have amazing women in my life to show me the power of the Holy Spirit. God has placed in me the desire to seek him. In reflection, it is the times that I allow God to be greater, that I have become less.

Seek God. Surrender. Pray for peace. Pray that God gives you the power to feel the Holy Spirit at work in you. There is no peace that compares to that which comes from the Lord.

"Even when I don’t see it You’re working. Even when I can’t feel it, You’re working. You never stop, You never stop working. You never stop, You never stop working."
