Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments are to be written upon your heart. Impress them upon your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk on the road. Write them on the doorframes of your houses. Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Reminders! Our lives are so full, our attention so stretched that a whole industry—Post-it Notes—was created to help us focus on what we need to remember.

Ha! Nothing new under the sun, right? God understood the need to remind us of what is important—not appointment dates or the need to pick up milk or coffee, but the basics of our lives.

To the Children of Israel, He said, "The commandments I give you are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you are walking along the road... write them on the doorframes of your houses." Deuteronomy 6:6-9

Just as the Children of Israel needed reminders, so we, in the busyness and confusion of this modern world, need to return to the words of God. While we might not physically write them on the doorframes of our houses (although it is not an unheard of practice), to see them, to read them, to share them reminds us of the wisdom of our faith.

In the coming weeks, we will speak scriptures that encourage us. Whether you literally post them "on the doorframes" or commit them to memory and practice, may they give you vision and bring you peace.
