"All the prophets testify about him the everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name” Acts 10:43
We all know that the story of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ is one of the most profound expressions of love and forgiveness the world has ever known. In that moment, which was marked by betrayal, pain, and unimaginable suffering, Jesus spoke these words that continue to touch our hearts throughout time: "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing" (Luke 23:34). Jesus prayed for the people responsible for his death. During His own agony, He chose mercy. The crucifixion represents sacrifice, suffering, and a love so deep it chose to endure pain for the sake of redemption.
In our daily lives, we carry wounds, words spoken in anger, broken relationships, and lost trust. Keeping those pains bottled up can quietly shape our thoughts, our hearts, our attitudes, and even the outcome of our future. But forgiveness, as seen through the crucifixion, is not about excusing wrongs; it’s about releasing the burden they place on our hearts.
Forgiveness is not a weakness; it is freedom! When we choose to forgive, we are not saying the hurt didn’t matter. We are saying it no longer has power over us. Just as the message of Easter reminds us that the story didn’t end at the cross, our own stories don’t have to end in pain either. There is always the possibility of renewal, healing, and new beginnings. Through forgiveness, we release the weight. Through the cross, we find meaning in our suffering. Through Easter, we embrace the power of a new life!
Today, take a minute to reflect on the meaning of the crucifixion.
Who do we need to forgive?
"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." Colossians 3:13
What area are we holding onto hurt?
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:31-32
What would your life look like if you let go of this hurt?
"And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Matthew 11:28-30
Forgiveness is not always easy, but it is always powerful. By choosing forgiveness, you step into a life not brought down by bitterness but filled with grace and love.
